The city opened a new cold-weather shelter nearby, and we’ve been swamped. Thus I stayed late and whipped this little devil together. It was extra thick and flavorful, so it likely will be cut into two soups tomorrow.

Mirepoix: yellow onion, celery. Ground turkey, sauteed crimini shrooms, straw shrooms, broccoli, black beans, tomato, hoisin sauce, garlic, turmeric, ginger, Thai basil, sugar, fish sauce.
Not gonna say anything about those straw mushrooms.

Fresh rosemary. Oh so good, and it really added umph. Michele made this classic.
Mirepoix: yellow onion, celery, poblano pepper. Green beans, broccoli, red bell pepper, sesame ginger marinade, soy sauce, fish sauce, garlic, plum sauce, sesame oil.
Great combo. The plum sauce really set this off.

Michele did a good job on this one. I love the mix of protein. Two types of rice used. A bowl of love.

Mirepoix: yellow onion, red bell pepper, carrot. Rotisserie chicken, canned chicken, zucchini, leek, broccoli, portobello mushroom, hondashi, garlic, Lemon Good Health Vinegar, fresh ginger, fresh basil, soy sauce.
Never start a land war in Asia.
Fresh ginger was the key. Not too bad.
Was pretty sweaty in the kitchen. Had to bring out portable fans to combat the sultry atmosphere.

According to Wikipedia, freekah is ” a cereal food made from green durum wheat that is roasted and rubbed to create its flavor. ” Rubbed? Your guess is as good as mine, but had no protein, so in it went.

Mirepoix: red onion, orange and red bell pepper. Roasted broccoli, green onion, Patak’s Butter Chicken Simmer Sauce, cumin, red pepper flake, garlic.
The simmer sauce was too mild and sugary for my taste. Had to add a lot extra bouillon and spices.

The Harissa really had a kick to it.

Breakfast sausage was the only protein available, so in it went. A bit odd, maybe, but I dig odd.

We had no regular flour, so I improvised the dumplings. They were a little chewy.
